Hey all! Tesia here.
Here is a prayer litany for Graduation Sunday.
Graduation Sunday Prayer Litany
At the beginning of the liturgy invite the graduates, their families, and their spiritual mentors to stand at the front of the sanctuary. Depending on time and size of the class, you may also take a moment to introduce each graduate. At the end of the litany you may wish to present them with a gift and sing a hymn of praise (see suggestions below).
LEADER: God of new beginnings, you are the Alpha and Omega. You are the First and the Last. By your Word you created the whole universe and gave us the gift of life, family, and community. Today, Lord, we are giving thanks for the graduates and families in our church and praying for guidance and protection as they transition into a new season of life.
LEADER: Holy God, you have been faithful to us through many generations
ALL: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: We thank you that you teach us through your Word to
love you with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength,
and you give us the grace to follow.
A: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: We thank you for the ways in which you seek to shape
and mature us through the gifts of academic and spiritual growth.
A: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: Today, God, we lift up those in our church community who are graduating.
-Read the names of those who have come forward-
They have worked diligently to complete their degrees
and we are confident that you have been walking with them.
A: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: We thank you for the families who have supported, nurtured,
and provided for these graduates on their journey.
A: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: We thank you for the friends and mentors who have
encouraged and uplifted them throughout their lives.
A: Thank you, Loving God, for your faithfulness.
L: We pray protection on them as they transition into their next season of life,
whether it be the pursuit of higher education, new employment, trade school, or continued service in the body of Christ.
A: Guide their steps, Jesus.
L: We pray that you would give them increased discernment
and knowledge of your voice as they endeavor to follow and honor you.
May they seek the path of your word and a life of holiness.
A: Guide their steps, Jesus.
L: Surround them with the blessing your presence
and give them assurance of your love as they journey into new beginnings.
A: Guide their steps, Jesus.
Lord, we give you thanks in all circumstances, trusting that goodness and mercy will pursue these graduates and their families all the days of their lives as they follow in the way of Christ. We give them to you, acknowledging that you will lead them by the power of your Holy Spirit into a hope-filled future. In the holy name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
